Josh Spindler is an award-winning lens-based artist whose practice centres on documentary photography, blending traditional street-style aesthetics with research-led narratives. Since graduating from the Royal College of Art in 2016, Spindler has garnered international recognition for his distinctive approach, which seeks to reveal the extraordinary within the everyday.

Recent accolades include being shortlisted for the Taylor Wessing Photo Portrait Prize 2025, receiving a Certificate of Artistic Achievement from the Luxembourg Art Prize 2024, and winning the Grand Prize at the Nikon Photo Contest 2022–2023. He has also been long listed for both the BBA Gallery Artist Prize 2022 and the Robert Walters Group UK New Artist of the Year Award 2021, and was selected for the inaugural CIRCA x Dazed Class.

Spindler’s work is anchored by themes of humanity, community, and the beauty found in the overlooked. From documenting landmark events such as the death of Queen Elizabeth II to creating and exhibiting work across Japan, Canada, and Iceland, his lens captures the subtle rhythms of contemporary life. His five-year ‘Ultraviolet’ series, shot entirely with a fully modified UV camera, epitomises his commitment to both experimentation and depth.

Now based in Brighton, he is committed to covering it all from bowls clubs and coach drivers to drag performers and wildlife. His work offers a compelling, empathetic perspective on the diverse stories that shape modern society.
